Yoga

“There is always a light within us that is free from all sorrow and grief, no matter how much we may be experiencing suffering.”
Patanjali

I offer one-to-one yoga sessions specifically suited to individual needs, whether you are a beginner, have any physical issues or an experienced practitioner.  I will work with your personal physicality to explore habits that might be inhibiting the flow of energy around the body.  I will work with you to develop and establish new patterns that restore your body’s equilibrium and reduce physical and mental effort.

As well as physical postures (asanas) a session will include breathing exercises (pranayama) and mindfulness meditation (pratyahara), to further relax the nervous system and quieten the mind.  These three ‘limbs’ of yoga support the body to reduce its levels of the stress hormone cortisol, help alleviate anxiety and put things in perspective.

My work has been greatly influenced by my first teachers Narayani and Giris Rabinovitch (authors of ‘The Sivananda Book of Yoga’), and the writings of Bessel van der Kolk (‘The Body Keeps the Score’), who uses yoga to support clients at his trauma clinic in the States.

I co-host an annual retreat with Jivamukhti teacher Maxine Payne. If you would like to be kept informed of when these happen, please email me:
